FAQ

Do I have to get completely undressed?

You should only undress to your comfort level. Skin on skin contact is best for a massage and most

people get completely undressed. However, it is very common and acceptable for people to wear

underwear during their treatment. Your massage therapist will leave the room so you can get undressed

and comfortable on the table in privacy.

Will the massage hurt?

It’s not supposed to hurt, but there are times where a muscle can be more susceptible to pain. Our

Therapists are trained to read body language but sometimes it is hard to tell exactly what you’re feeling,

so open communication between patient and Therapist is key. Pain can be a sign that the muscle is

injured or inflamed. Too much pressure can cause you to tighten up and negate the relaxing effects of

the massage.

How often should I get a massage?

Once a month is a great maintenance program for a patient that doesn’t have any underlying conditions.

Patients that’s suffer from chronic pain should come more often on a bi-weekly basis. For patients that

have acute conditions, more frequent treatments are recommended during the healing process. As the

patient, you are in full control of your treatment plan and your therapist will make recommendations

after gaining a better hands on understanding of your particular muscular issues.

Can I talk during my session?

If you prefer to talk to your therapist during your massage you are more than welcome. The Therapist

will not engage in conversation unless indicated. Most people prefer silence during their massage to be

able to help fully relax the mind and body.  There are times when you should talk to your Therapist

regarding the pressure of the massage, or if you’re feeling uncomfortable. Massage Therapists

appreciate you speaking up and telling them what you do and do not like, it helps them create a better

experience and more effective treatment.

Should I shave before a massage?

No, because the treatment and the massage oils could irritate the freshly shaved and sensitive skin.

What kind of massage oils are used and will I break out?

At Healica Massage Therapy we only use natural and high quality massage oils that are filled with

nutrients and anti-bacterial properties, therefore you should not break out. However, if you have

sensitivity or an allergy to certain types of oils please bring it to the massage therapist’s attention.

Is it safe to use a muscle relaxant when doing a massage?

No, because you won’t get a true sensation of the treatment and you can’t feel if the massage is too

deep.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please be courteous and call our office promptly if you are unable to attend your appointment, we ask

that you give us a minimum of 24 hours notice or possible charges may apply.

Do I need to make an appointment?

Yes, when we book an appointment that time slot is saved for you. Walk-ins are welcome.

Am I expected to tip my massage therapist?

Tips are not expected. If you have received exceptional service and would like to show your appreciation

to the therapist, you are more than welcome to do so.

What should I expect when I arrive for the first visit?

You will be greeted by the office administrator, who will ask you to fill out a Health History form. After

the paperwork is filled out, your Massage Therapist will take you into a comfortable treatment room to

discuss your Health History form and preform assessments. Here you will have a chance to ask the

Therapist any questions or concerns. Your Therapist will then give you some privacy to undress to your

comfort level and get on the table between the sheets.

Do you accept group bookings?

Yes, we have multiple Therapists available to accommodate the needs of large groups.

What do I need to bring for my treatment?

Your Insurance card if you wish to take advantage of our direct billing service, a list of current

medications, a list of surgeries and dates, your physicians address.

How will I feel after the massage therapy treatment?

Some experience relief from long-term aches, pains and knots developed from stress, tension or

repetitive activity. It is common to feel some muscle tenderness after a massage that goes away after a

day or two.  If this pain persists, mention it to your Massage Therapist before your next treatment. It is

recommended you drink plenty of water directly following your treatment to help eliminate toxins from

your body and to prevent dehydration. It is suggested to relax in a hot Epsom salt bath after your

massage to encourage flushing of toxins and metabolites that have been eliminated from muscle tissue

into the blood stream.
